As an educator, this lets me know that I should include and encourage buddy writing with my students. This past year, I had several boys who were really into the Lego Ninjago series. I could have incorporated that with their writing and they could've written alternate story lines or invented new characters. As the author said, "the inexperienced author doesn't have to spend all his or her time developing something original, but instead can focus on the actual skill of writing". I think this genre and style of writing would be beneficial for elementary students and would increase their self-confidence as a writer.

Lara,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed reading this chapter and seeing how they collaborated with each other and each one focused on their strengths as a writer. I too was thinking about how to incorporate something like this in my writing class for next year.
I love the idea of buddy writing in the classroom. I think that would be very effective especially if they have a common interest like the boys in your classroom. I also want to my students to write alternate story lines and invent new characters by using something they are passionate about. I also used the quote at the end of your blog in my reflection as well. I have never thought of it that way until now. We all have writer's block from time to time. Putting a twist on something already written helps them become stronger writers.
